COMMUNITY

Jeans for teens is going on until February 15! All the jeans donated go to homeless youth in our community. Please donate jeans in the box by the elevator!

Red Cross Club is hosting a drive to collect Emergency Supplies for South students to keep in their cars. The supplies they are collecting are granola bars, cans, Anchorage area maps, bottled water, flashlights, batteries, soap, hand sanitizer, First Aid supplies and thermal blankets. There will be a box in the commons for supplies.

If you want to learn more about careers in health care, an after school class will be starting on Wednesday January 28, at 2:15 pm in F213 with Mrs. Campbell. Guest speakers will answer your questions, and you will learn valuable skills to help you prepare to be part of a health care team. Health Occupations Essentials - see your counselor to sign up or Mrs. Campbell in F213 if you need more information.

INDIVIDUAL

The Alaska Travel Industry Association Foundation is offering thousands of dollars in scholarships to Alaska Students pursuing education related to the tourism industry. All scholarships can be found at: http://www.alaskatia.org/foundation/scholarships

Seniors- The Anchorage Education Association has three scholarships available to ASD high school graduates. $2500 for a senior pursuing a career in communications, $2500 for a senior preparing for a career in education and $2500 for a senior preparing for a career in music. See Mrs. Hemenway for applications. The deadline is Friday April 24th.

Seniors, if you are interested in applying to Alaska Pacific University, don’t miss the APU all day open house on February 6th. This is your opportunity to explore classes, meet faculty and students, and tour the campus. See Mr. Christopherson in H206 for more information.

Reminder to all Juniors signed up for the in school SAT on Feb.25, you MUST attend one of the registration sessions this week. Sessions are: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before school (7:05am), at lunch (10:25am) or after school (2:05pm) in either G213 or G214 This is not optional- you must attend one of these sessions. Please see your counselor if you have questions.

A representative from The Art Institutes and the International Culinary Schools at the Art Institutes will be here in the commons today at lunch. The Art Institutes is a system of over 50 schools throughout North America and the leading educator of students in the fields of Creative and Applied Arts. Stop by and find out if this is the school for you!

SPORTS

Congrats to our South Wrestlers for Defeating the Service Cougars last night to win the Conference Dual Meet Championship. South went a perfect 7-0 in conference this season. Next up for our wrestlers is the Region Championships next frIday and Saturday at Chugiak. Good luck wrestlers 

for any sophomores participating in SOBOSS, you know who you are, their is a practice after school tomorrow in c114. if you have any questions you can stop by c114 during lunch today or tomorrow. if you forgot you signed up for an event or can't remember if you signed up on a team, look for the sign up sheet during lunch.

CLUBS AND GROUPS

Partners Club will meet every Tuesday AT LUNCH in Room E104. We will start next week, Tuesday, September 2nd. Please come and check out what the club is about- treats will be provided.
